Blackjack Online and Sliding Stop-limits

Online blackjack is one of the most underrated casino games on the Internet. While there are some drawbacks to playing online versus playing in a traditional casino, there are also a lot of advantages for skilled hobbyists. It is common knowledge that blackjack has the lowest house edge of any casino game. When you play with perfect Basic Strategy, without counting cards, the house only has between a 0.5 and 1 percent advantage over you. This essentially means that a skilled player is almost flipping a coin every time he plays, which is much more favorable than any of the other games in online casinos. Blackjack is a game of skill, not a game of knowledge, and one should treat it as such. By using careful betting systems in conjunction with perfect Basic Strategy, you can play an even game with the casino, or even carefully put away money over the long term.

Basic Strategy

BS, as it is colloquially called, is the backbone of card counting strategies, shuffle tracking and other more obscure types of advantage play. The Basic Strategy of blackjack is a list of the most statistically effective moves that a player can make in any hand of blackjack. While memorizing all of those moves may sound daunting, there are easy ways to learn it, and most people can play perfectly after a day or two of dedicated practice. There are color-coded charts available all over the Internet that detail the correct move for every hand in blackjack. BS, as it is colloquially called, is the backbone of card counting strategies, shuffle tracking and other more obscure types of advantage play. Unless you are using a card counting system that requires strategic play deviations, you should always use the exact moves detailed in the charts. However, make sure that the chart you are using matches the rules and conditions of the game that you are playing. For instance, you would not use the exact same playing decisions for a single-deck game as you would for an eight-deck game.

Stop-limits and Flat Bets

Advanced blackjack play is a lot like financial market trading. One of the methods used in market trading is something called a “stop-limit,” which is a point at which you cut your losses and take a break in order to prevent financial risk of ruin. One of the best ways to make money in any type of gambling, but especially blackjack, is to use a moving stop-limit. Use a flat-betting system in conjunction with perfect BS, and then slowly put away money as your bankroll gets larger. If you set your bottom limit at $50 in a $100 bankroll, the most that you can lose is $50 for that sitting. When you get to $125, move your stop-limit to $75, so that you can only lose $25 for that sitting. The fluctuations in blackjack usually even out when you use BS and same-size bets, so all that you need to do is trust in the correct moves, despite any emotional hunches, and habitually pocket money once you move beyond your break-even point. If you fall below your stop-limit for the day, take a break and come back the next day.
