The one minute Baccarat guide

Bet on either the Player or the Banker (don't bet on tie). The one with the card count closest to 9 wins. You can never have over 9 since 10 would be zero, 11 would be counted as 1 and so on. Have fun and good luck!

The ten minute Baccarat guide

The term baccarat means “zero” in Italian. The game was originally created in Italy during the 1400s. It did not, however, have immediate widespread appeal. In fact, it did not become popular until nearly 400 years later, after having been exported to France. Soon after the popularity explosion in France, the game could be found in every European casino. Today, it is found in every casino throughout the world.

Baccarat Basics

Baccarat is a relatively simple game, and it’s not even necessary for a player to memorize the rules. A new player can sit down to a live dealer or computerized version and play along easily. Baccarat is a game of chance, and, depending on the variant, there is usually a 50-50 percent chance of winning. There is little skill involved, but one advantage of baccarat for the player is that the house advantage is very low, usually 1.17 percent or less.

Baccarat Variants

There are three common variants of baccarat: Punto Banco, Chemin de Fer and Baccarat Banque. Punto Banco is as described above, purely a game of chance with absolutely no strategy or skill involved. In both Chemic de Fer and Baccarat Banque, both the player and the dealer have options, a difference that introduces a not insignificant element of skill.

How to Play Baccarat

Baccarat is played between a player and a dealer. Each person starts the game with a two-card hand, and the game is decided by comparing these two hands. Any game of baccarat has three possible outcomes: player wins, banker wins or tie. The player is able to bet on any of these outcomes. The tie, however, is the worst possible outcome to bet on because it has a house advantage of 14 percent.

The core objective of baccarat is to draw a hand of two or three cards, the sum of which is closer to nine than the banker’s hand is. In a casino, the game is played on a very large table that typically accommodates 12 to 14 players. Each player has a unique hand and play against the dealer who is using a single hand. Often these large tables will have as many as three dealers, one main dealer, known as the caller, and two helpers who assist the players furthest from the caller.

Live, Online and Online Live

Baccarat is very popular in brick-and-mortar casinos, but it may be even more popular online due to the accessibility for newbies. In software-based baccarat, the game usually accommodates a single player playing against a single virtual dealer. There is also live online casino, which is played via the Internet using a stream of an actual baccarat table and dealer.

Baccarat Strategy

In baccarat, the player has a 50 percent chance to win, and the goal is to get a hand that equals nine. A nine or eight that is achieved via the first two cards is called a natural. A natural automatically wins, or it ties if the dealer has a natural as well. A hand value that is within three of the value nine is in good position nonetheless. The player can stand pat. Hand values that are four or more away from nine are not in a favorable position, so the player should request the third card. Skilled baccarat player tend to bet bank each hand because that is where the best odds are. Note that a very popular but flawed strategy is to keep track of the card values played. Since chance does not have a memory, however, it does not work.

Banking Strategy

The house edge for every baccarat format is knowable. Each table also has a commission that goes to the house. The commission should be no more than 5 percent and can be less. Opt for the smallest commission possible. Also, maximize your bankroll, which increases your win odds over the long term. Achieve this through casino promotions, deposit bonuses and loyalty programs.
